Team Apache is in its 11th year of operation. What once started as a small local wrestling club of approx. 20 athletes, mostly from Council Rock High School, has now blossomed into an almost year round training school for wrestlers of all ages and from all over southeastern Pennsylvania and even New Jersey. During our first 4 years of existence the club only catered to junior high / high school aged wrestlers and consisted of only a spring session lasting from Mid -March until early June. Our first stage in expansion came in 2000 when the club opened its doors to the elementary aged wrestler. At this point we had 2 groups (elementary & junior high / high school) training from 6:00-7:00 and 7:00-8:30 respectively 2 nights a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
In 2003 Team Apache added another opportunity for athletes to continue training by starting a fall / preseason session open only to high school athletes. Currently Apache WC is located in Trevose, PA in a 3600 sq ft warehouse that houses a bit over 2 full mats. The latest phase of expansion came in the Spring of 2007 when Apache WC teamed with Rider University Wrestling to expand to its 2nd location. Rider University now hosts a club that runs on Tuesdays and Thursday nights (during the SPRING session only), which attracts athletes from all over Mercer County, NJ and eastern PA as well. We are very fortunate at the Rider University facility as practice takes place in Alumni Gymnasium with the use of 2 full mats and room for more if needed, not too mention the great lobby with flat screen TV’s and even a Starbucks for parents to relax in while athletes are working out. Making this partnership even more exciting is that the Rider University Coaching staff, namely Coach Taylor and Coach Hangey, are now part of the Apache Coaching staff. Some of their college athletes come in to work out and volunteer their time serving as guest counselors as well. This PA – NJ one two punch gives wrestlers tons of opportunities to better hone their skills.
